Hello everyone!
We are currently in Arequipa, the second largest city in Peru. We arrived here a couple of days ago after finishing the Inca Trek to Macchu Picchu.
The Inca Trek was really good and very tiring. We hiked about 42km in 3.5 days and went from an altitude of about 2700m upto dead womens pass at 4200m and back down to Macchu Picchu at 2500m. We had mixed weather along the way. The first day was nice, the second day rained pretty much all day, the third day rained in the morning but wa really nice in the afternoon, and the final day was similar to the third. We had to wake up at 4am to hike for 2hours to Macchu Picchu and luckily when we arrived it stopped raining and the clouds lifted a bit.
The trek was fairly difficult at times and in some places was very steep. The second day was the hardest as we had to cope with the altitude also but it was very satisfying to finally reach the top!
After the trek we had very sore feet and legs and spent a night back in Cuzco to recover before getting a flight here to Arequipa.
We have spent the last two days in Colca Canyon, which is three times deeper than the famous Grand Canyon and is just 5 metres wide in places. The highlight of this trip was seeing the Andean Condor which is the 2nd largest flying bird in the world (behind the albatross).
We have a pretty lazy day today before we get a night bus to Nasca where we hope to take a flight over the Nasca lines tomorrow.
We only have another 4 days of our tour left now and then we will be back on our own and on our way to Chile!
Hope all our well
Love Rob and Ros x
