Our first full day in Prague.
We woke up early after chatting with a couple that said the queues for breakfast start getting long by 7.30. We had a bus to catch by 8.30 so we didn't want to be late. We got to the breakfast at 7.00, had to wait a couple of minutes but got in and had a great breakfast, trying to pick who was on our tour and who we wished weren't. Sounds cruel but but some people just present as those you don't want to associate with - whether it be accent (or rather extent of accent), level of invalidity or that they just appear to be wingers and there were a few of them around us.
After breakfast we lined up at the tour counter and signed up for a few tours here in Prague.
The first tour was a general tour which took us across the river to the castle on the hill overlooking the city. Quite simply the castle is beautiful and majestic (I'm sorry if these descriptions sound a bit repetitive).
I'm not particularly religious but the castle's chapel, some old thing that has stained glass windows was to die for.
I am in love with a new country that I did not think possible after Rome. Prague is one of the few cities in Europe that was not destroyed during either World War, so that when you look at old buildings, they are actually the original buildings.
We were taken into the City Square where on each hour this clock produces a stage show. Firstly a skeleton starts pulling a cord which rings a bell, then Saints start overlooking the process followed by other characters jumping in (very much like the clock in London Court, Perth but on a grander scale.) After all this a trumpet player (a real human, not a character) starts trumpeting away followed by a waving of his sleeve which looks a lot like a flag. Then each hour the process is replayed.
Trenna was still feeling the effects of the sinus and thinks it is going to her chest. We go to the hospital emergency section and get treated like you are a long lost friend - it simply leaves Perth treatments so far behind they should be embarrassed. After about an hour (if that) Trenna had been seen by a doctor, given a thorough examination, and a prescription for an extra truckload of drugs but she was happy. All up it cost about 1,000 kroner or about $50 Australian if my maths is still ok.
Either way, Trenna is up in the room sleeping, I am in the bay drinking and typing up these blogs so we are both happy.
Assuming Trenna is still ok we are off to a traditional Czech dinner/dance tonight. We have another tour tomorrow morning followed by a free afternoon. My aim is to get to the icebar and the creditcard beer tables - sounds like I have a drinking problem but no, these
are just very unique Czech experiences. Anyway enough for now, chat later.
Trenna .... Hah hah just read this blog. As a post script - didn't go to the Czech dinner. So many smoking over here, not a good match for a chest infection.
Also Ross didn't get to his ice bar or credit card beer tables! Did however spend an interesting couple of hours negotiating public transport in the wrong direction!! And no, I didn't laugh out loud!!
