Alarm call at 5.15, breakfast at 5.45
This was less adventurous but still not a complete success, coffee with milk was brilliant but the translation of scrambled egg with bacon got a bit confusing and so we both got an omlete with bacon cut up in it. The toast was cold and the cornflakes were drowning in milk so had lost their crispiness. So far do you get the gist that we are not good at breakfasts ?????
We were to be met in reception at 6.50 for our trip but got a call saying the tour guide was waiting at 6.45 and we were both not fully dressed, so they had to wait for us - don´t really think other passengers on the coach were that happy - remember the 85% from the previous day - less said.
Took the coach to the harbour to catch the boat, bearing in mind that it was raining quite heavily and the lake looked a little choppy !!!!, thankfully we both wore our baby alpacha jumpers which kept us very warm.
Jackie seemed a little nervous as we had to cross 3 boats to get to ours, but once aboard was fine - so she didn´t leave me at the shore line.
The 1st short trip was to the floating island of Urso, where we learnt about their habitat and got to wear their tradional dress, boy did we look different and not the sort of clothing to wear on a Saturday night out at the pub. We then took a ride to the next local island on one of their traditional reed canoes along with 3 of their native children, who kept up entertained by singing songs in different languages, all who sounded really good until they sang in english, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and Row, Row, Row your boat. At which stage we would have liked them to have stopped, their version was very different from ours.
On arriving at the next floating island, we were met with the sight of 3 dead, plucked moorhens, oh joy !!!!. As we didn´t really know our itinery, we hoped this was not where we were having lunch and to our great delight it wasn´t !!!
Next trip was to the big island of Taquili, this took 2 and a half hours on a small, slow boat, which was fine until the last 20 minutes, when the water got rough and the boat was being thrown from left to right. At this stage Jackie REALLY wanted to get off, I was being sympathetic with her and laughing my head off at the look on her face, but I was laughing WITH her and not at her !!!
Finally we landed, we had to walk up a very, very, very steep hill and the oxygen level was dropping with every step we took. We eventually arrived at the top of the Island Square where lunch was to be had. We were informed that it was to be grilled trout with the head still on and rice or omelete, the other option was a packed lunch with ham and cheese sandwiches, fruit, chocolate and energy bar - we will leave it up to you to decide which we chose, but remember we did say CHOCOLATE.
After lunch we could then look around the square and make our way back to the boat via 500 uneven, depth steps, but nice views over to Bolivia on the way down. We did stop quite a few times for photos on the way down and therefore had to make the other passengers wait yet again- still don´t think they were very happy with us - oh well never mind.
The sun had at this time come out and it was very warm, so we got a tan for all our hard work, our hotel had it´s own jetty so we were dropped door to door.
Ordered coffee as we were suffering severe altitude sickness and drank them in the garden, whilst recounting the afternoon and Jackie being as vocal as ever, our lovely waiter brought us another coffee each and learnt a few choice words, all this time all I could do was laugh and couldn´t warn her of his approach.
Still feeling a little rough, unfortunately the flights tomorrow have been delayed a little but this means we can have a lie in and drink plenty of coffee, before we have 3 flights lasting 10 hours and end up in Easter Island. Where we hopefully hope they do coffee with milk or we are b*****ed !!!!!
