Breakfast , don't really want to break a tradition so we had omlete with potataoes, leeks and Jackie even had carrot - yep you guessed it, it was an aeroplane meal.
We landed at Santiago airport and it took us 30 minutes to get off the plane, as they were only letting 50 off at a time. It was still dark and we just saw a mass of cases strewn on the runway, surely these weren't ours - wrong. We had to rummage through the pile to find our cases.
Then proceeded towards arrivals and passport control which was a large tent, people were zigzagging through and there was a BIG black sniffer dog wandering through us all.We were advised that as we were in transit we didn't need to fill in an imigration form, however after getting to the front of the long queue a Mr Jobs Worth pointed to a desk so that we coukd fill one in. Form duly filled in and rejoined queue.
Then onto transit departure lounge which was across the airport car park and into YEP another tent, although Jackie says it's a marquee, cos it's got pointy bits on. When we get to the desk for our boarding passes we are told that we are on stand by, you can imagine how happy I was - not.
We have been given the go ahead and are no longer on standby but we can't check our cases in as they have no room for them on the next bit of tarmac.
We were then directed to the depature lounge which is chairs in the car park, but as we had already reserved our tickets we sat in the executive lounge bit of the carpark, ha ha ha. Luckily the sun is shining and we can top up our tans for the next 7 and a bit hours, or in Jackie's case she can go pink.
The cafeteria, also in the carpark didn't have any change so we had to share a cup of coffee, which Jackie was given a sachet to make herself.
The only plus side is that Jackie can smoke wherever she wants in the departure lounge.
We have a panoramic vista of the restrooms which have blue doors and are made of plastic - yep you guessed it porta loos, also a brilliant view of the planes taking off as we are only about 100ft away from the takeoff strip.
We have made friends with a couple , who are staying at the same hotel with us, however they are still on standby, so we daren't go to sleep incase we miss the call and they nick our places on the plane.
Boy we can't wait to come back.
Finally landed in Easter Island at 9pm and met with traditional flower necklaces, being shown to our Hotel where we can finally get some sleep.
