To India and Beyond
Hi everyone.
I'm in Bangalore now. The train trip over from Goa was pretty good (if a little obscure). I sat in a carriage with 59 teenagers who were returning to Chennai with 10 teachers from the school following a 5-day holiday in Goa. They were absolutely charming, talked English perfectly and were most interested in how life in the UK differed from that in India. One wonders whether British teenagers would be so charming if I were an Indian woman on a British train? Three of them have given me their addresses and telephone numbers, promising to show me round Chennai when I get there. One little lass (Sudha, 16) has invited me to her house for a proper home-cooked Indian meal.
Bangalore is quite interesting. It's a pretty big city and I've seen quite a few westerners. My hotel is a bit out of the centre, so I'm away from the travellers scene a little.
Went to the Tipu Sultan's Palace this morning which was interesting, but there wasn't much to see so paid Rs 100 (about 1.20) and was only in there about 20 minutes. However, it was worth it just to get away from the foray for a while. The city is very busy and the traffic is unbelievable!!! I think they should rename rickshaws - riskshaws, because you really take your life into your hands getting into one and riding around cities - even rides at Alton Towers couldn't compare!
Hope you're all ok. Cough is a little better - have some new antibiotics which should clear it up completely.
Lots of love
