To India and Beyond
Hi Everyone
Hope you're all well. I flew over to Chennai from Dehli yesterday and took a taxi 3 hours south to Pondicherry a former French colony. I've had a bit of a walk round this morning and decided I like it very much here. There's very little hassle and lots of very friendly people, also found a fantastic little place for coffee and drank so much of the stuff that I'm feeling a little jittery now!!!!
It's very hot here. Summer seems to be kicking in already here in the South, it's much warmer than the northern parts I've visited over the last 3 weeks and I'm suffering a little. Usually takes me about 2 weeks to get used to it, so by the time I've adjusted I'll be heading back to the good old UK and cold, cold, wet, grey, miserable weather. Don't worry, I'll try to pack some Indian sunshine in my rucksack and bring it home with me. Think re-adjusting to english weather is going to be very difficult - but at least I'll have a pretty good tan to show off (until it fades in a fortnight's time!).
Am staying in a lovely place. It's a large guesthouse attached to an Ashram, the main Ashram in Pondy (as Pondicherry is called locally). The rooms are simple, but really clean, tidy and peaceful and overlook the Indian Ocean. It's a lovely place to spend my last couple of weeks and steal at Rs 200 per night (approx. 2.60 quid). The staff are super-friendly and I've met a lot of cheerful packpackers and long-termers already. The lady in the next room to me (who I believe is French) has been in India for 18 months!
So, am determined to make the most of my last two weeks in India, get plenty of r & r! Feels funny writing that, I can't believe how quickly the time's gone - four months already and only twelve days before I have to return to reality!
Lots of love to you all.
