To India and Beyond
Ey up
Am in Hospet at the moment. Sadie left for her flight home on 11th February and I left Russell in Gokarna with our German friend Karsten and Israeli friend Tamara. So, back by myself now. Took the train to Hospet, booked into a fairly posh hotel (new part of hotel is very posh, but I'm in the old wing and my room looks like a prison cell) and have slobbed around not doing a lot for the last four days.
Took a guided tour to Hampi, which was absolutely amazing. Lots of ruined temples and palaces to look at. Spent the whole day there with a very nice guide, being driven around in an old Embassador car from the hotel. Felt a bit fake, but I have to say that both guys were very nice and I really enjoyed the day.
Hampi is very different to the rest of India that I've seen so far. It's very hilly and bolder-strewn and a sacred river (the Tungabhadra) flows through the valley. It was very, very beautiful. Possibly one of the most beautiful in India that I've seen so far.
Off to Bangalore this evening on the sleeper train, then catching a flight to Colombo in Sri Lanka on Sunday 19th February. Am expecting to spend two days in Colombo sorting out my visa, then will catch a train to the south to meet up with my Swedish friend Andre. Will probably spend seven or eight days there before flying back to Trivandrum in South India.
Mum and her cousin Jean come out 5th March, thats almost two weeks away - can't believe it's come round so quickly. Really looking forward to the tour of the North - should be pretty exciting and a bit exhausting, there's a lot to pack in the two weeks.
Still enjoying myself. Hampi's lovely, but I'm looking forward to getting back to the beach and topping up the sun-tan.
Hope you're all well.
