Day 34 - Brussels
Well last night was eventful. We were woken at 4am by police hammering on a door downstairs and then breaking it in. We stayed awake for a bit incase anything happened, then I gave up and went to sleep. According to the man at the desk, someone was ill and couldn't get to the door so they had to knock it down. This is the worst cover story ever. The place smelt of fags all night and if he was ill they wouldn't have all stormed up the stairs and through the door screaming and shouting. I want the truth. Any more shenanigans tonight and I am straight down there for a nose.
We wandered back to the main square and found an Irish pub. Today was a big day. Not only was it our last full day of the trip, but Donegal were in the All Ireland final. Before this tho, we ordered food and watched the Liverpool match. I thought I ordered fish and chips, but it turned out I had actually ordered whale and chips. it was like Shamoo was laid out on my plate. During the second half of the match some horrible French lads in Lyon shirts sat by us. They were talking in French but even my limited French could work out that they were being incredibly racist and saying the most horrendous things about both teams. Near the end of the game I snapped and stormed away. I just couldn't sit by them any longer. The look on my face probably told them exactly why I had gone. The girls followed and when the match had finished and they had finished singing about Man Utd, they left and we went back to our seats. I was talking to the barmaid and she said a few people had complained about them and the things they were shouting and they had been asked to leave. There is no need for people like that in this world. Some people genuinely make me sick to my stomach. I returned to the girls and Dee was nearly having a breakdown because the final was about to begin. I have found a new love for Gaelic Football. I got proper into it and learnt the rules and everything. Also, Gaelic footballers are rather easy on the eye. After a tense 70 minutes and Dee making friend with an old man, Donegal had won the final and there were tears and great jubilation from all the green and yellow covered people in the pub, and from the three new Gaelic football fans in the corner. This had been a wonderful new experience.
Back to the hotel we went, stopping for snacks on the way, and we are all sorting out our bags for or return home tomorrow. We are ready to go home now, but genuinely cannot believe it is over already. Our last night is being spent watching french 'One Born Every Minute'. Tomorrow we are going to check out, leave our bags at the station and mooch around before going to the airport. The end is nigh.
Ps, mother please ask dad to bring my phone to the airport tomorrow. I miss my blackberry.
