Day 31 - Munich to Brussels
This morning was hard. So very hard. Munich defeated us last night, we had sore heads today. We managed to get up, out and to the station for 10am and I had Bratwurst for breakfast. I think I am now fully Bavarian. The man asked me if I wanted red or white bratwurst and I wasn't sure so he told me I looked like a red girl because 'it has spicy in it'. Turns out I am a red girl. I then went to stock up on Milka and the man on the till told me he liked Australia. I said that was nice, but told him I'm English. He laughed. He laughed a lot. He then said England was an old city and I have an English sweet tooth. He repeated this across the shop when I was buying a pastry and the baker man said 'Auf Wiedersein sweet tooth' and winked at me. I do not like winking. I also cannot spell Auf Wiedersein.
We boarded our train at 11am and had 3hrs to Frankfurt. This time was well spent eating and sleeping, in an attempt to recover from last night. It worked. We arrived at Frankfurt a bit late and had to storm from platform 8 to platform 18 to catch our final international train. We made it just in time but had to split up as there were no groups of 4 seats. Dee and I were sat behind a man who had millions of bags, a dog and 3 boys; 2 teenagers and one who looked about 3. Half way through the journey the man burst into tears and the boys all comforted him. It looked very sad and I was trying my best to understand what they were talking about. Dee said it would be inappropriate to ask or give him a hug.
We arrived in Brussels about 5.30pm and jumped in a taxi to the hotel. It seems to have been our luck on this trip to meet strange people, and this taxi man was one of them. After us failing to speak French, he then informed us he could speak English. He quizzed Dee on what brought us to Belgium and welcomed us on behalf of the country. He didnt understand a word Dee said so ended up thinking we had got the train all the way from Ireland and were leaving for Amsterdam on Monday. We didn't correct him. He then told us what was near to our hostel and what sights were worth seeing and where the chocolate shops were. This was helpful. He practically drove into the door of the hotel and patted me on the back as we parted ways.
The hotel is nice, we have stayed in hostels that looked nicer, but ah well at least we have a bed each! Tomorrow we are going to Bruges for the day as it is the last day our tickets are valid. I am looking forward to this, I loved Bruges last time I was there. We are now curled up in our beds watching Belgian football and one of the teams have a pink kit. I am ready to sleep now.
Ps, mother I have no Internet in my room, I have to go downstairs for it. I'll Skype you tomorrow night.
PPs, Happy Birthday Yvonne! Hope you have had a lovely day and I shall hunt down the finest Belgian chocolate for you x x
