These last two weeks in Vietnam have been a great prelude to the five months we're about to spend in Thailand. We used our time here to completely chill out and unwind from our routine back home. We did very few of the typical tourist things and were very happy just living the moment and enjoying each other's company.
The weather has been amazing: the whole time we were here it only rained once, albeit very hard and very briefly. Typically the temperatures ranged from about 24 degrees in the morning to 31 in the afternoon. We felt the heat much more in Ho Chi Minh City, but the ever present wind at the seaside made it very bearable. Or perhaps we're just getting acclimatized.
It's been a piece of cake eating raw until 4:00 PM here with the great variety of delicious exotic tropical fruit that cost a fraction of what we'd pay at home. We've adopted one of the street vendors near our hotel as our sole supplier as her prices are always fair, she always lets us sample what we buy and often throws in a few bonus fruits. Dinners have been typically vegan although we couldn't resist having the odd Pho in some of the little mom and pop restaurants. Nobody's perfect.
It still hasn't quite sunk in that although our Vietnam "vacation" is drawing to a close, we don't have to return to our jobs next week. It's a very odd feeling, particularly for Brenda who doesn't have a job to go back to in April.
Tomorrow will be entirely spent making our way from Mui Ne to HCMC to Bangkok to Chiang Mai. We leave at 8:00 AM and in all likelihood won't arrive at our hotel until near midnight.
We've enjoyed Vietnam immensely, but are very much looking forward to unpacking our Farpoint 40's once and for all in Thailand.
