It was hard leaving Twinkie behind with Bob and Sue because it was her first time on her own without "mom and dad".
Our friend Anita took us to the airport where we took our uneventful flight to Louisville. Our car rental experience was somewhat of a hassle because there was no confirmation number on the info I printed from the internet. I had reserved an economy car for $469 for 16 days. The girl at the desk said I could not get that rate because there was no reservation and it would be over $700 for the car. In the end, after speaking with a supervisor we got a Mitsubishi Galant (full size car) for $479 for 16 days.
We got everything loaded into the car but before I even turned it on a huge storm started pelleting our car with torrential rain and hail and a horrific wind. It was very stressful trying to navigate a new car in an unfamiliar city during rush hour traffic to get out of town. Thank God for GPS.
We started heading east towards Lexington (about 80 miles away). We passed many beautiful horse farms and lush green woods along the way. I told Pat that I just love the scenery of Kentucky. There are rustic barns and old weathered split-rail fences dotting the scenery everywhere you look.
We found a hotel got checked in and then set off to one of our favorite dinner sites the Golden Coral. We are trying to get acclimated to the 3 hour time difference and so went to bed at 10:00 local time (7 p.m. Phoenix time).
