Good morning and good evening, I'm writing this blog on Thursday 11th having to now catch up on a further 2 days but both of these days have been an absolute pleasure. Instantly felt at home in chiang mai, from the small drive to the airport and being dropped off at our hostel 'Thai pai garden', Tina and I have felt instantly relaxed and at home.
We arrived around 10am and quickly dumped bags again, I think Tina was pretty made up the hotel had a small pool all be it with stone cold water. We had a look around chiang mai and the amazing temples which allow you to look around, just have to take a shoes off and can walk around freely- I have added a few pictures in my photo album to back this up. hav so far seen wat phra sing, wat bupparam, wat po pao, wat Chang man to bore you with some names. I think Tina has grown tired of me making the same joke of saying, "what?" after everything she says but that stuff is gold dust.
I now write this on the saturday 12th having now got a chance to bore you further. We seemed to have stumbled upon some real luck here, on the day we arrived it was thestart of their festival 'Lou kratang (yie peng)' which is where they give thanks for water and stopping the rain and it goes over 3 days over the full moon. I love a bit of H2O as much as the next person so was truly onboard with this. Going out in the evening was amazing seeing massive parades with the locals dressed up, and they let off these lantern that anyone can buy. I have to say Charlie that I think it slightly put your one lantern to shame, I'm sure I spotted yours though in all the masses making it's travels. There are Lot of pictures they we have put on but the night sky looked amazing with them could easily be mistaken for a star lit sky.
It's good to seem my clumsy ways have not left me, managed to fall over (this was not of a bar or anything) and rip up my flip flops, but next to me was a chap begging who proceeded to laugh at me for a couple of minutes, considering he had no legs himself I thought it was good going.
Had some amazing food as we found a little local place and my new favourite of 'kausoi', very spicy of course and costing only £1. Bargain at twice the price! In the evening we watched the 2nd day of the festival at the roof top bar which goes high above the city streets and you have to take your shoes off to drink there with small
Mats to sit on. Very chilled even if it felt a little unsafe considering it was made of bamboo and matting. Didn't help that I put my foot through the floor when I walked in but we survived intact. We have done plenty more but tired of trying to catch up yet again. Now sitting having a coffee while we plan a 2 day trek with elephants, so look out for me on the international news when you hear about a tourist gone off trail and lost in the mountains with his elephant.
Hope everyone is well, and I will be trying to get to a tv screen aka bar to watch footy today and hoping for 3
Points from the town. Have cut a deal with tina that she gets a massage while I watch this and no doubt meet some randoms.
Robbie c out for now.
