Hi All,
We've made it to Namibia and have found the fastest interent we've had in some time so are frantically trying to update our blog and photos. We've done loads since our last update......
Zambia - Victoria Falls is quite amazing. We were fortunate to be there on a full moon which means if you go at night to the falls (it isn't usually open then) the moon is so bright it lights up the falls and you can see a lunar rainbow. It's very odd but amazing all the same. We also went back during the day and got ourselves soaked! Thanks to Cathy and George for buying that one for us - hope you get the postcard!
Botswana - we then headed back to Botswana to go to the Chobe National Park. Up at the crack of dawn for a game drive and then a river cruise in the evening. Thanks to the Minihanes for that gift - hopefully the thank you card will make its way to you in the next few days / weeks / months / years. The river cruise was particularly amazing. We've never seen so many elephants in one place, herds and herds of them all down at the river for sunset, we also saw one of them with the largest willy possible which we all had a good laugh at. There were alos loads of hippos making lots of noises, as well as crocs, buffalo and birds. It is amazing to see so many large amazing creatures in one place and to get so close to them. Botswana is full of elephants, in fact they have a bit of a problem as there are too many of them, so many times we'll just be driving along and they're all at the side of the road.
From Chobe we carried on to the Okovango Delta. This was one of the most fun things we've done so far. We ditched all our equipment and bags and just took a small overnight bag to go and spend a night out in the bush at the delta. some locals took us out in their anoes - Mokoro dug out canoes that they make from a tree turnk. Rob and I lay back inthe canoe with our bags whilst Kirk (our poler) skilfully led us through the reeds and out into the delta. We got off at a small island and set up camp. Rob and I had a go at poling around in the canoe but were bloody useless and I managed to get us stuck in the reeds and couldn't turn the boat around. We had a bushman walk that night and couldn't get very far as were surrounded by a herd of elephants, within yards of camping area - they literally could have come through at any moment, it was quite exhilirating being out in the bush. Luckily these locals are very good at what they do so all was well. The next day we headed back to the mainland and then took a flight over the delta in a little propella plane. This was fantastic. It 's so hard when you're down in the delta to imagine what it is like but once you are up in the air you see everything......hundereds of elephants, zebras, buffalo, Impalas, and the waterways and views are fantastic. Cat and Ty thank you so much for that gift, again, fingers crossed you receive our thank you postcard.
Unfortuantely due to time we're just uploading our photos to Snapfish so the photo here is just a library photo - but to be honest an elephant is an elephant. Don't forget to check them out if you get time as the Delta was amazing. Thank you so much for all your kind messages on the board, it's really funr eading them but we're not sure if we're able to reply them, so you may just get a few emails instead.
We've made it to Namibia before reacing Cape Town in early July. The weather is great but it gets really cold at night in our tents. We're loving every minute but both of us are rather grubby after all this camping and dust and sand is everywehre.
We hope you are all well and are looking forward to hearing your news. Nick and Donna congratulations on the birth of Harriett - send soem photos when you get chance. Ellie, hope you had a good birthday and that your feet are recovering. Lots of love to you all, we're missing you all lots but having a fantastic time.
All our love
Steph & Rob
