Saludos De Guatemala!!!
So we succesfully completed our fist border jump, by in fact jumping two in one day!
After catching Belize in all its glory through the window of a packed minibus we headed straight for the Deep forests of Tikal. We were dropped off in El Remate a sleepy town on the edge of a giant Lake and national park. Aside from the french hippies its awesome! We stayed at the Sunny Breeze Hotel with the legendary Umberrrrrrto (a Guatemalan version of big gay al!). We went all out and booked in for the es spectacular Tikal sunrise tour. It was mystical!, apparently a name derived from the latin "mist" and the english "can see Fu** all". We witnessed the sights of cloud, and distant chatter of French speaking animals...... We were consoled though by the crystal clear lake water and the amazing beer accompanied sun sets. And Umberrrrrto.
Next we got a overnight bus to Guatamala city and after a full 10 minutes headed out to Antigua. Here we spent 3 days acting interlectual with mornings of coffee on picturesque squares....until rob got shat on (by a bird) and we headed for Quetzeltenango, or as us locals like to call it Xela (pronounced Shey-la).
Here we began our spanish lessons. Rob to learn the language and Lou to bask in the glory of her well trained use of the Subjunctive. Robs teacher claimes he is "her masterpiece", although he suspects there may be hint of sarcasm as she celebrates each correct responce with a 5 minute slow applause. Lou meanwhile is learning all about the Guatemalan socio-political-spiritual culture. We are staying with a typical Guatemalan family tree. With the amazing Abuela Berta running things from the kitchen. If we manage to finish our homework before tommorrow wel treat ourselves to salsa lessons and the odd Cabro.
We plan to stay in Xela for a month so if your gonna send us money or food now is a good time to get in contact.
Hope all is well back home
Love Roberto and Louisa xxxxxxxxxxxxx
