Hey all,
We've now spent about 3 weeks in Melbourne, and totally love it! Everyone seems to say you either love Melbourne or Sydney, and for both of us Melbourne is a clear winner. Everywhere you go you are surrounded by trams which are cheap, and take you practically anywhere you want to go! Other than that Melbourne has some great nightlife, great shopping, and we have made some good friends in the hostel we are staying at (which is also the best we've been in!) So overall, Melbourne's a winner!
As for things we've done since we've been here, we've been to Federation Square, to the Melbourne Cricket Ground where we did a tour, and watched a couple of days of the 4 day game between Victoria and WA, visited nearby St Kilda to go to the markets and wander the beaches, went to Brighton so Ro could find the beach huts which are famous across the world, been to comedy nights, for a chinese dinner, to the ice bar.. the lot! We also managed to get a couple of days work for accommodation here too at the hostel, scrubbing walls for a free bed!
Out the back of our Hostel is Queen Victoria Market, which is possibly the biggest market you could ever see! We've started buying all our food from there, and splitting it with our friends as all the meat and veg are fresh and cheap in bigger quantities (so i am eating well mum :) ). There are loads of other stalls there too, selling everything from clothes to souvenirs!
During our first week in the city, we met up with our friend Rob, who we met on the Contiki tour. He is from Melbourne and treated us to a fantastic lunch at a restaurant called Red Spice Road.
We have been here for quite a while, but there is still so much to go and see.. there will be a Melbourne pt.2 page before long, but first, we're off down the Great Ocean Road!
