On Friday we started travelling down again and we left The Whitsundays to make our way to Rockhampton, where we were staying on a farm.. yes, a farm.. a beef farm :S
On the way there we stopped off at Mackay for lunch, which is the home of Australia sugar cane industry. We also drove over Fitzroy River, which is the largest river in Queensland.
In the afternoon we went past the Tropic of Capricorn, which marks the most southernly point of the sun in the Southern Hemisphere.
Right, so to the farm.. it was an experience to say the least!
Old Station Farm was made up of 3000 Cows, and over 26,000 Acres of land ranging right in to the mountains. We learnt how to crack a whip, some being more successful than others, and had a home cooked dinner.. though they couldn't give us their own beef due to certain laws.
We had a Karaoke in the evening and there was a cheap bar, so it was a good night all round. As for the accomodation, it was a purpose built block made especially for Contiki (Our tour company) as they needed to make money from tourism as they were finding it hard to make enough money from farming. Inside the block we had corrugated iron and breezeblock walls, most definitely the coldest night on the trip!
