Hey everyone,
Nearly had our first week away now, been very busy and haven't got enough sleep! Our flight wasn't too bad, smooth enough and a very good company really.
We arrived here on Thursday at 8.30am Australia time (9 hours ahead) and managed to quickly get in to our resort and in to our rooms. The resort we are staying at is called Cairns Colonial Club and has 3 swimming pools and a jacuzzi, as well as a gym and tennis court! We then went off to explore Cairns a little bit, seems like a really nice city, and seems to have a bit of an American feel to it. It totally changes at night though, there was a bar crawl on Sunday night!
After a couple of relaxation days, we met up with our tour group on Saturday afternoon and went straight off to an Aboriginal show by a tribe of aborigionals called Tjapukai. We all had to throw a boomerang and a spear and then watched a traditional aborigional dance which they did. After that we went out to dinner with the rest of the tour group in a place called the Woolshed, which apparently has a bit of a reputation around these parts! Come 11 o'clock we could see why, as everyone was dancing on the tables!
On Sunday we booked on to a cruise of the Great Barrier Reef. We went to Thetford Reef, which is one of the 2904 Reefs that make up the Great Barrier Reef. We went snorkelling amongst the fishes, one of which was massive and really friendly. We also went on a semi-submersible boat so we could see under the water and get some photos.
Today we went on a scenic railway up to a village called Kuranda, which is a small aboriginal village up in the hills. We got loads of great scenic pictures, and many more on the cable car ride on the way down! The cable cars went right over the top of the rainforest and we got great views and pictures of Barron falls and Barron gorge. We stopped off at a couple of points and learnt alot about what goes on in the rainforest.
That's all for now, we're up at 5am to head down to Daydream Island in the Whitsundays so we need to go get some sleep! Hope you are all well!
