We left Colorado, and that makes me sad. Me and Snack Guy agree that we could live in Boulder. We left and skated through Denver without even really getting a chance to see it, and then suddenly everything was flat…just like that…snap! No more mountains. Instead, what we had around us was an endless prairie. It was all flat like the desert before, but this time covered in green grass. GRASS! Oh, how I missed grass. We stopped for a little lunch in very eastern Colorado, or very western Kansas, I forget, but it was a park all covered in grass and I just rolled over on my back and squiggled myself for a good few minutes. It was a great feeling. We got back on the road, and it was just flat, flat, flat grasslands as far as we could see. It was like the horizons, windmills, and cows from before, but we also saw a lot of oil wells. Who knew Kansas had all that oil. Snack guy told us Kansas was the part of the "Bread Basket of America". I don't know about that but there was a lot of corn and wheat. We drove for about 19 or 20 hours at least! Then we were suddenly in Great Bend, Kansas. We stopped off at a dog park and a couple of other dogs were there. It was grassy and nice, but very, very hot, so I had to get in the water a few times. And those other dogs were kind of old and had forgotten how to play properly. They just couldn't keep up! Then we went over to our new house. I didn't like it much…linoleum floors again, all different kinds in each room; I couldn't get any traction to run or jump on the bed. It made me so frustrated. But we mostly went to sleep quickly. Snack Guy got a hamburger and said it was one of the best ones in his life. Next morning, we got up early and went to the dog park again because, little did I know, it was going to be another long day in the car. But there were a few more dogs this morning and the action was better. I even found a muddy hole to lay down in. This really seems to bother Food Lady; she complains about the smell, but really that's the best part! Anyhow, they cleaned me off as best they could, and we were off. Kansas is long. Like really, really long, and windy, and flat. But it's green! And we even began to see a few more trees! We drove for at least 5 days. I kept falling asleep and waking up to look out, and it was still just flat, green, horizon. And next thing I knew, we were in Missouri. Why, we even found our way back onto RT 66. We were on a section we'd missed on our way west. We even passed the burial place of Daniel Boon. If you're like me, you have no idea who that is, but Snack Guy seemed to think it was a pretty big deal So, we looked around a bit and stopped at a house that Snack Guy said was a "Tiny" house. And it was, and that's about all the description you really need. I kind of liked this one because there was nowhere anyone could go where I couldn't keep an eye on them. Except the bathroom, and I just barked the entire time one of my humans would go in there; it hurries them up. We got there, kind of late, and took a walk to an empty dog park where we chased a ball around until we were tired and went back to our tiny new house to sleep. The sleep was interrupted each time the air conditioner came on, and it came on a lot. Then a really loud storm came through, and I got kind of scared and had to get in bed with my Humans. I may have taken up most of Snack Guy's room, because he got up kind of grumpy. I just wanted to be close to him to keep him reassured. We wasted no time heading out of the tiny house and back on the road. More RT. 66.
At Food Lady's instance we came to Bowling Green, Kentucky today. It was about a 5 or 6 hour drive, seemed longer of course. We passed through St. Louis, Missouri first. We drove around the town and spent a lot of time checking out the famous Arch. Snack Guy was boring us with history lessons of Lewis and Clark and the Dred Scott Decision. Again, no idea what any of that was, but it is certainly nice to get all those new smells of the big River. Then we were off again….we crossed that river and we were in Illinois, then a few minutes later, we were in Indiana, then a little while later still, in Kentucky. So, basically, we covered four states today. We landed here in Bowling Green Kentucky for pretty much only one reason. It's not to see the Corvette factories. Not to see Western Kentucky University either. No, we came here because it is the birthplace of Snack Guy! We went by his old house, met a nice lady who lived there pretty much since he moved out. Before that, we went to a great Pizza place! Then took it to a park to eat because they didn't allow dogs….grrrrrr….and I happened to notice as they ate their pizzas, that were several dogs across the way. IT WAS A DOG PARK!!!!! I managed to pull and tug on my harness just right and popped out of it. And I was off like a Kentucky Derby thoroughbred! I bounded my way to the dog park and a nice lady opened the door for me, but then didn't let me in all the way. I was trapped in between the two openings, and that gave Snack Guy a chance to catch up and harness me again. But it was OK. He let me in, and I spent the rest of the evening running and playing like crazy. It was great! Now, were in a hotel. They didn't get a house this time. I'm not sure why. I do get a feeling that tomorrow we're headed out early again. Something different this time. Even though they are still having their "Wine Friday." There's something special about tomorrow, and I'm not sure what's up. Only thing I am sure of is that I am one tired puppy. You can tell by my pic on this blog. I gotta rest up for whatever they have planned.
I'll keep you posted,
Risa.
