OAKLAHOMA….where the wind comes…you know the rest. Whew…I'm exhausted. Arkansas was wonderful, but sure enough, just as I was getting those goats used to me, the humans packed up and moved us again. Another long road trip, but this time they kept stopping. At every little roadside attraction they found. We finally hit Rt. 66 around Tulsa, Oklahoma, so Snack Guy was happy. Just as I was getting comfortable in the car, he'd stop, so I'd have to wake up and check everything out and make sure it was safe. I never got my real nap in, and it might have made me a bit cranky. Let me tell you, readers, those Oklahoma roads are not as nice as the Arkansas roads. There's these toll roads and before each toll station there's these little indentions in the road to make you slow down, and they vibrate the car something awful. Of course, this wakes me up and I need to bark about it to express my displeasure. Once it got so bad, I had to jump into the front seat to protect Food Lady, but she kinda pushed me back to the back seat again. But we got through Tulsa…and then along Rt. 66, which I'm still unclear as to what's so special about it. Snack Guy kept going on and on about some Blue Whale, and we saw that. It was a nice little park to get out and walk around in, but other than that, I really don't see what's the big deal. It rained on us almost the whole way to Oklahoma City. And the crazy road instructions frustrated Snack Guy something awful. I thought we'd never get there. And I think we must have driven like 47 hours. Food Lady said something about 7 hours, but that can't be right. My stomach knows when it has had food and when it hasn't. But anyhow we finally got there to some apartment complex and of course it was a whole new set of smells to get used to. You can't rush theses things. Each new place needs to sniffed in its entirety, and this takes some time. Add to that, people walking around upstairs making noise and that's a lot stuff that needs to be barked at. So, anyway, we got there. It was late in the evening, so the humans just ate a snack, got a coffee and fell asleep. Next morning, we got up early, explored the neighborhood, found a good place to poop, then back in the car to go uptown, or downtown, unclear about the jargon here. But anyhow, we went to a neighborhood called "Bricktown." It was a cool walk along the canal. The rain had finally passed, and it was almost tolerable as far as the temperature was concerned. I chased a few ducks, ate a discarded gummy bear covered in ants (best part of the day), and barked at some kids who scurried off in fear. That's right. Athena is my goddess. Don't forget. I dominated this town.
We explored this part of town for some time, then the humans went for a burger and chicken. It took some time to find a spot that allowed dogs, but I ultimately got some corn bread out of the deal, so it was all good. I was pretty tired from all the walking, so Snack Guy and I took a nap. When we woke up it was early afternoon. The humans like to find a coffee about this time, so we did. Then we got back in the car again….gas at Costco, then I was thrilled to discover that our next stop was a dog park. I was in heaven. But it was hot and muddy, and I got tired pretty fast. So muddy in fact, the humans made me take a bath when I got back. Not my favorite part of the day! But as far a dog parks go, it was just OK (get it?). I still have to give best dog park to Memphis, so far, but we'll keep an opened mind. Then humans took me home and Food Lady went off to find food…Snack Guy and myself went for another walk where I found a plastic bottle and we played with that for a good long while. Then Food Lady got back and, well….we had some food. And I have to tell you, as much as I wanted to join them in their Friday wine ritual, I really had to call it a night early. So, I'm off to the bed. Tomorrow is supposed to find us in Albuquerque.
I'll keep you posted,
Risa
