So we decided the night before that we would try to get to Buenos Aires from Montevideo asap the next day because Argentina were playing Venezuala and "we" really wanted to go, Chloe was only too happy to get out of Uruguay!! We had also found out the night before that we would be staying in an one of the staff from the languages school´s appartment with his family ( we later found out that he wasn´t just a member of the staff but the owner of the whole school!!) Arrived in BA after a VERY early start and headed over to our appartment and immediately asked Federico if it was possible to still get tickets to the game. He sorted out a place where we could get tickets so again "we" were very happy! The game was amazing we were in the gods but the atmosphere was incredible I made the mistake of drinking some beer before the game and had to go to the toilet prior to kick-off! It was crazy after navigating myself to and from my seat I think the Inca Trail will be a piece of cake, I was dripping head to toe in sweat!! Anyway 4-0 to Argentina and a wonder show from the miracle man Messi made the early start well worth it!!
THe next day (Sunday) we decided to go to Recolata and see the fancy cemetary and where Evita is buried. It was very pretty beautiful but also very weird taking pictures of graves and looking through glass doors and seeing coffins and spaces for more coffins!! We spent ages walking around and finally found Evitas tomb which was a bit of a let down we were expecting a big fancy thing but it was only a plaque!! Left the cemetary and stumbled upon a Sunday Market and Chloe was like a kid on Christmas morning we lapped the market so we could price everything up before walking round again so Chloe could shop! (She has informed me that she aspires to be a hippy so be warned when she gets back and has dredlocks with beads and is listening to Bob Marley on the I-pod!). ANyway spent most of the afternoon looking and buying bits before walking around and taking in some of the sights in the area. A highlight is a massive metal sculture of a flower that closes at night time! That night we decided to treat ourselves and go for a slap up steak meal at La Cabrera which everyone (including the locals) claim is the best steak in BA. They were right it was unbelivable and whilst we had to wait for 2 hrs for a table and they somehow thought I wanted half (which was still enormous!!) the meal was out of this world. Needless to say Chloe was again a very happy bunny!
Monday was the start of school and we started bright and early at 9am doing the Intensive course we found ourselves out of our depth in a class with 2 other students who clearly were not beginners!! After the 5hr session finished we asked to change to the crash course which we felt would be a bit more practical and more our level. They said that the class started immediately and we could go if we wanted we agreed and spent another 4hrs "learning" spanish, most of which was the same stuff from the morning session so we looked pretty s***-hot compared to the other two guys, who were weirdly from Sheffield university and graduated the same year as us! So 9 hours in total meant we were pretty shattered also meant we decided to start drinking coffee for the first time in our lives!
Tuesday we spent the morning looking around town checking out the sights we hadn´t seen yet and then headed to the school for more spanish. Found some guys we had met in Iguazu were staying in a hostel around the corner and one was leaving the next day so we went round to have a few drinks there. Ended up being a pretty late night and we met a few crazy people one of whom sounded very much like Arnold Swarzanegger and he was a complete twat!
Wednesday we had a lay in more school and more coffee! Decided to go to a Tango show that evening organised by the school! Turnt up expecting a big dance floor and were greeted we a stage full of instruments! It was a concert NO DANCING but still worth seeing for about 30 mins which is all we stayed for before we got out of there!
Thursday was a national holiday in remebrance of the Falkland War so we didn´t have any school and was a bit nervy being a Brit but what the hey. We went to Boca in the morning which is a beautiful district in the city were Tango was created, lovely colourful houses all very vibrant! In the afternoon we decided to take a break from sight seeing and hit the cinema, no our spanish isn´t that good, we watched Gran Torino in English, I don´t know whether it was that it was remembrance or what but the Argies are very emotive everyone in there was crying by the end of the film including the blokes so Chloe felt right at home with her customery sniffling! Federico (our host) and his wife Virginia offered to make us dinner that night so imagine our delight when he rocked up with a massive lump of beef and whacked it on the BBQ!!! It was again incredible they aren´t lying about the beef in Argentina!!
Friday was our last day at school and also our last night in BA. After finishing our last class and still wanting yet more meat we bought some rump steak from the local butchers for a ridiculously cheap price and had another amazing dinner. We arranged to meet some other girls who we had met in Rio and have a night out with them so headed over to there hostel. Ending up going to a massive club and got in largley thanks to Chloes near perfect spanish of "Mi y tres amigos por favor!" Satyed until about 6.30 then had the thankless task of hailing a taxi once inside Chloe was off again with here new spanish lingo tyhe taxi drivers out here absolutely lap it up when she trys to speak spanish., telling them how old she is and what she works as etc. Anyway got up at 1pm said our goodbyes to Federico and the family and went to the bus station to catch a ride to Rosario (birth place of Che Guevara) 4 hour wait for the bus was not enjoyable.... (Rosario to follow!)
