After a short bus journey (2.5 hours- which to us now is dead short) we arrive in Montevideo, our hostel is ok nothing special but quite cheap. We explored the city a bit today, there are so really beautiful buildings here. Found a nice sounding restuarant in lonely planets that we planned to go to, however we turned up at 6, hungry and wanting feeding, but we learn that most resturants dont open until 8!! 2 hours to wait!!! not happy! so we go for a few beers in one of the many green open spaces in the city. It was nice watching the world go by and just chilling out, that was until the spider suddenly appeared. I started backign away in my chair, forgetting there was a step behind me- which I fell down still sitting in my chair- it was funny until the massive bruise on thigh came up! That was the first thing that went wrong here.
We arrive at the resturant at 8 - its closed- no sign of life! brillant! end of drinking more in the bar district which is pretty cool loads of tables and chairs on the road and going home with the huff. I´m woken up at 2.30 in the morning with an intense itching all over my body, couldnt work out what it was so just went back to sleep. Woke in the morning to find my body covered in bites- yep I was sleeping with bed bugs, stupid little b******s gave me about 200 bites. The hostel wasnt particuarly good about- sort of looked at me like i was making it up! eventually they moved us to a smaller room, hopefully no more bites!
We hired bikes today and went for a long bike ride along the coast and saw some beautiful beaches, we went about 10 miles, again no gears/suspension or padding, so quite sore now! I didnt think I would make it back, but the thought of dinner was enough to keep me going. We had á steak which lonely planets describes as ´obscenely big´! well I´d say that was an complete overexaggeration, but it was amazing and probably the best steak we both have ever had!
All in all, Rory enjoyed this place more than me, I cant wait to leave. For me Montevideo is almost on par with Dresden as places I hate. Luckily we are going back to Bunos Aires tomorrow.
