We got up bright and breezy and went to get breakfast and meet at the boat booking office at 08:30 where the 'pick up' was, again this turned out to be a bloke on foot so we followed him at a very slow pace to the pier... we climbed on the boat next to the pier by wading through the sea again, but it was all good fun. It was a four island tour and the first stop was monkey beach. There was about ten on our boat, mostly German, with two Italians (who brought Whiskers cat food with them for some reason) and of course me and the rat. It was about twenty minutes to monkey beach, as the boat pulled toward the beach we could see loads of monkeys running around, we climbed off the boat to see the cute little fellas, I was quick to go on the beach to see them. A few of them were in front of me, they ran toward me. I turned my back on them to try and put them off but then the b******s were clinging onto my legs. This made me do a silly dance and then I felt them biting the back of my legs and scratching, I kicked out and got one on the head then headed for the sea, they gave a little chase but did not follow me to the ocean. The chap from the boat ran at them kicking sand at them waving his arms and they s*** a brick, it seems that turning my back on them wasn't the correct technique, never mind. I checked my legs and one of them was bleeding and the other had a purple tooth marks and a couple of scratches. Of course the first thing I thought was this is a great story, Sarah on the other hand immediately thought I was due to die of rabies imminently. The shore was alive with the sound of laughter, and rightly so, everyone on our boat found it well funny. So Sarah with a face like a smacked arse and me obviously a bit worried but trying to see the funny side headed to a swimming spot, we headed through huge rocks that were like mountains with sheer faces covered in greenery and before too long we were surrounded by the mountains and the sea was calm. We arrived at a strange bit of the ocean where the sea went to about four feet deep and was like a swimming pool. As we were encased by the mountains the wind was forced through the gap and it was blowing a gale. Sarah wouldn't get off the boat due to her 'worry', 'come on bird, let's make a day of it and enjoy it and we will go to the hospital when we get back at 13:00, yeh?' 'yeh o.k' 'so your coming in the sea then?' 'no'. Bloody hell it was frustrating. I went in the sea which was actually freezing but absolutely lovely. Our next stop was a snorkel stop and Sarah was coming in! We jumped in and snorkelled up, as soon as our yocks were under the water we could see coral reef and shed loads of fish. We saw the rainbow fish we had seen the other day when we were snorkelling, I am sure I saw a giant octopus this made me get out the water. Again Sarah inspected the bite and made me ask the boat man if I was going to die, he confirmed that I would live. Sarah then relaxed after the boat man/doctor gave us this news. We then headed for the main event, Maya Bay - this is the bay in The Beach with Leo Dicaprio in it, we turned the bay corner (if that's what a bay corner is called) it looked fantastic with the mountains in the background and the enclosed beach (I am sure that everyone can remember it) as we got closer we saw at least one million people on the beach. It was still the whitest sand we have seen and the sea (between the boats) was crystal clear and it was clear to see why it was the film location. After one hour here we headed back to the main land where we were going straight to hospital to get the bites looked at, the hospital was right next to the pier. We went in and it seems that the sneaky little monkeys bite people all the time as there was an English poster on the desk about monkey bites, I waited for about fifteens after filling out the form and Sarah very bravely announced 'I need to go outside I am going to faint' and with that despite my phobia of needles she was off outside, I didn't mind really, if your going to faint your going to faint. I got called through and I got told to lye on the hospital bed in a room with several other people and there was a man sweeping the sand that was everywhere out of the door which went straight out onto the beach. Sarah had a second coming and popped up at the bed side as the nurse was preparing the syringe, Sarah disappeared to faint again and the nurse injected the bloody poison into me. As I paid the 1300 Baht for the privilege Sarah reappeared at my side. I instantly felt quite ill, but was relieved that it was done. We made it about 50 yards and the brave patient said she needed to sit down before she fainted... again. Of course me being the one who was in the best of health ended up going to the shop to get two cokes to make her feel better. The walk back to our room was a slow one and I felt really weak when we arrived at the top of the big hill next to our hotel, I went straight for a lye down... Sarah joined me, despite feeling beyond tired, having a headache, fever and having the craziest day dreams on record I couldn't sleep. I tossed and turned until about 18:00 and Sarah's worry for me got out of control, she was panicking and crying, she was not happy that I wasn't hungry so in the end I said that 'I would love a phad thai' so she went out to get me a take away one, she returned with it and to be fair I ate the bloody lot. I think the combination of eating whilst ill and going straight back to bed afterwards resulted in me having the s***s, I went once before I went to sleep and was hoping I wouldn't need to go in the night as we had the mosquito net tight as a drum around the bed. I woke up with Sarah shining the torch in the corner of the room and she boldly announced there was a lizard in the bin, I thought her cheese had slid off her cracker. After ten minutes of debate I found the energy to take the torch and put the bin outside, Sarah said the lizard was still in the room (I couldn't find it), so I lit some matches and waved the smoke smell around the room as figured that they wouldn't like fire, luckily I didn't wake up again until day light and Sarah said the lizard noise stopped.
