Hello everyone,
Rich's turn again! Right we're in Wellington now, having arrived here this morning on the ferry!
After Beths last entry we drove to Nelson arriving in the evening and promptly checking in to a campsite for the night to avoid the pouring rain!
Our first day consisted mainly of our self driven tour of the fine wine arts trail, where you visit numerous wineries trying their best bottles and learning all about the processes involved. We had a great time chatting to the owners of each place and despite not being pressured to, we eventually ended up parting with some cash and buying a couple of bottles of our favourite brew. Later on that day we headed off to the cinema to watch the new Kevin Costner film, the Guardian, which was very very good.
On our second day we got up nice and early to give Mum a ring in time for her birthday and followed this up with a walk to the top of a "mountain" (i'm insisting on calling it this, although beth says it was merely a hill and the fact rich didn't even make it to the top makes him calling it a mountain even more pathetic!!), nevertheless there were some great views of the city. We then headed off to a cafe/pub for a beer and in a moment of rare decision making i decided to get my haircut for the first time in 3 months. From there it was back to the campsite for an afternoon in the Nelson sunshine!
On the third day we made our way to the World of Wearable Arts and Collectible cars museum. A particular favourite there was the Yellow Robin Reliant, reminiscent of the one used in Only Fools! The Wearable art was very strange but quite interesting!
That evening we met up with my mate from home - Kate Bennet, and her friends (two more kates!!!) for a few drinks in town and spent the night catching up and swapping tips as they are travelling in the opposite direction to us around NZ. The next day we all loaded into the campervan and headed off to Pelorus Scenic Bridge Reserve for a picnic and then back to town for dinner and a couple more drinks!
We had a lovely two days with them and it was really nice to catch up on each others news!
The following morning we jumped aboard Wally and drove to Picton which is basically where you catch the Ferry to the North Island and didn't produce much news other than a couple of exceedingly bad performances on the crazy golf course!! Both 50 shots above par on an 18 hole course!! Not quite Tiger Woods eh?!!
........ and now we're here in Wellington - leaving tomorrow for Taupo!!
Hope everyone is well
Lots of Love
Rich and Beth
