We went to Iguazu Falls today, wider than Niagara and the biggest waterfalls in the world measured by the volume of water. It was impressive...We re staying in a 'party' hostel out of town, although they dont seem to have organised any parties, there is a huge pool and plenty of beer. It seems like we ve spent ages travelling to get here as we worked our way up through Uruguay and stopped off at Porto Alegre (not a lot happens there and the fact that no one really seemed to have heard of it should have tipped us off, however I did drag rich to sex and the city movie there for 90p). Our first port of call in Uruguay was Colonia, a pretty town which is a world heritage site and was a smugglers port a few hundred years ago, although now very sleepy. We did manage to go horseriding in the countryside however which was fun and terrifying. Rich's horse was troublesome, at one point he laid down and rolled in the sand as Rich jumped off to avoid being crushed. My horse liked eating leaves a lot, she didnt like me shouting 'vamos!' and digging my feet in to try and make her go. The next day we decided to go winetasting, and Uruguayan wine is actually quite nice we discovered. When we arrived at the winery it was closed so the taxi driver told us in Spanish that he would take us somewhere else, we had no idea where. It turned out to be a cheese and jam making farm with a museum of the owners obsessional collections. We saw a lot of pencils, ashtrays, cans, matchboxes etc. It was an experience anyway. We got to the winery in the end and tried many types of grapa and foolishly bought a bottle. Next stop was Montevideo...also sleepy, even though it is the capital. We decided to try the night life, which is one street filled with bars and clubs that advertise themselves with girls silhouttes or were called things like Techno dance club. We decided to get drunk on cocktails in a cafe instead.
We have one more day in Iguazu, in which time Rich is going rapelling, like absailing I think. Then off to a picturesque island with many beaches...Im adamant that I will get a suntan...
