Well we made it safely to Athens after another long night on a plane.
This catching flights at midnight is really starting to play havoc with my body clock ... but at least we've got a couple of days to kill before the fun at Santorini begins.
Damon .. if you're reading this, not only can richard never buy an off the rack suit because of his enormous muscley posterior, he now can't sit on a plane for an extended amount of time without being in pain!! Once again you were thought of frequently!!
My little sister will be very excited to hear that I've currently got legs like my grandmother .. my ankles are the same size as my knees due to the flights ... clearly it would be too much to ask that it had the same effect on my bust measurements !! Not that that seems to matter much in greece the men seem to have eyes only for richard much to his embarresment ... he's clinging to the hope that once Pete (the greek god for those that haven't met him) arrives, the pressure will be off him
Well guess what ... everyone else was wrong ... Athens is awesome.
We had such a great day today wandering around (trying to make my ankles shrink) checking out all the ruins and the Syntmagta and Plaka regions.
With endless side streets with little shops and tavernas, it was great just being a tourist. I really wish we had ignored all the negative feedback and booked a little hotel in Plaka .. the view of the Acropollis at night would be fantastic from there, not to mention the resturants.
We are saving our evening out until Jen & Pete arrive tomorrow ... we are still a little jet lagged so are going to have an early night ... we are feeling quite proud of ourselves though having achieved 5 hours of walking, much of it up hills to get to the Acropollis. Any of you that know us, our average walking time per day is closer to 20 minutes, so today was a good effort .
We learnt some Greek terminology today ... Pedestrian Mall is greek for .. "You will probably be killed by a motor bike rather than a car!"
Well thats it for now ... I've put some photos up of our adventure today. Tomorrow we might head to the harbours to see what the Greek consider to be beachfront luxury ... apparently they have awesome seafood resturants on the waterfront.
