Sorry for the delay for this posting, but I was so sick of the incredibly slow dial up access that we had .... clearly cable connection spoils you!
Now for all of you that have been unable to sleep, worrying about my ankles .. they are back to normal ... rest easy everyone :)
Now I know you probably think this posting was delayed due to an incredibly huge night out to celebrate the arrival for Pete and Jen, but alas .. it was not to be!
Knowing that they were due in at 6pm we decided to spend yet another day out and about tripping around Athens.
We went jeans shopping and found a fantastic little store where Richie was able to find some awesome jeans that fit his muscley shape (at last!). We then caught the train to Piraeus (the port of Athens) thinking for sure we would be able to find a nice sea food resturant on the water in which to wile away the afternoon.
A word of warning ... if in Athens looking for a nice sea food resturant in which to wile away an afternoon ... PIREAUS IS NOT THE PLACE. Its only purpose is to get rid of tourists NOT to attract and entertain them. ie this is where all the cruise ships leave to get to the outlying islands ... there is nothing of any interest in Pireaus UNLESS you are planning on getting on a boat.
On the bright side, on the trip back we got off the train to swap lines to get back to our hotel. To our suprise, when we got upstairs to purchase another ticket we saw the front doors of the train station opened up directly onto yet more ruins, so we decided to check them out. We found ourselves at Monastraki ... a beautiful little area directly under the acropolis, filled with lots of little winding streets with shopping galore, heaps of character and lots of resturants ... even better than the Plaka region!!
So ... after eating (yet again) we headed back to the hotel to shower, change and meet Jen & Pete at the airport.
We arrived in time to line up at the arrival lounge at 6:05 .. by 7:30 we were getting rather bored with standing waiting for the arrival doors to open and spit out more tourists.
At about 7:35 we finally got a message from Jen .. they were in a line ... the 'You've lost my @#Cking Baggage' Line!! Good old BA as struck again and unfortunately Jen was on the receiving end.
For anyone that has watched the movie 'Bowling for Columbine', British Airways is to losing luggage what America is to shooting people compared to the rest of the world.
By 8:00 they were finally out and checked in and showered.
Oddly enough, after 40 hours of non stop travel, sitting in an upright position all the way, they just weren't in the mood to catch the train into Athens and hit the resturant scene. Personally I think it was because Jen actually had no clothes, makeup or hair products and was wearing petes underwear ... foughtless she is .. just foughtless!!
So we hit the bar downstairs instead, had a couple of drinks, listened to their travel adventures, watched a few of the 'working girls' strut their stuff with some hotel patrons and then hit the pillows relatively early in anticipation of a HUGE day tomorrow.
