We got dropped off by the bus on a highway at around 3am so although we had tried to book somewhere we stumbled into the nearest open hostel and crashed out for the night. The next day we headed for Poring hot springs, waterfall and canopy walkway...After paying the foreigners fee (3x the amount the Malay's pay) we climbed our way up to the water fall where Rich stripped off and waded in. After a few girly screams he retreated back to the rocks as the fish started to nibble at his feet to eat all the dead skin! Ehh! We then headed for the canopy walkway where you can walk amongst the tree tops of the forest on suspended walkways!...got some brill pics although we did have to pay a 'camera fee' to take any up there! So after getting ripped off left right and centre we decided it was time for a relaxing soak in the natural springs...Hmmm! They were not exactly that relaxing as you had to fill up your bath tub yourself from a tap of supposed natural water that stank of egg and took about 2 hours to fill!...so with that we headed for the base of Mount Kinabalu.
After finding out a 29 person dorm room was 20pounds per person per night we headed 100 meters down the road where we found a private room for about 10 pounds between us where we had amazing views as you were above the clouds even at base level! We watched the sun go down from the base camp of the park and the bats come out...we then decided we were in need of a midnight snack! So PJ's on and torch in hand we headed down the cliff side road to see what culinary delights we on offer at 11pm! Surprisingly we found a 'restaurant' still serving down the road and tucked into noodles and omelettes before bed!
We decided that the climbed up the mountain was too pricey (that was Shell's excuse anyway!) and so embarked on the trail walkway around the base of the mountain. After a few hours we found a log over the river and stopped for lunch, sunbathing and a few games of s*** head (The official card game of our trip!) before completing the walk!
As we had been unable to draw money out since we arrived in the National Park we were getting a bit low on funds so had to make a bee line for the main road and flag down the next bus to take us to the capital, Kota Kinabalu!
