We relaxed in Kununurra for several days. The kids spent a lot of time in the pool, playing with other kids. The caravan park groundsman leant me his kayak, so I enjoyed a nice cruise around the lillies and old trees of the lagoon. Then we left to go camping in the Bungle Bungles. After just getting used to caravan life, we had to get organised for camping: less clothes, food, supplies, bedding, portable fridge and battery, packing, last minute shopping. This took the better part of a day (with some pool time as the days have been hot).
We stored our caravan at Turkey Creek for three nights and then drove the 4WD into the Bungles national park. The road in was corrogated but no worse than you'd expect from some public roads. We arrived just before sunset, and so were setting up and cooking tea under the moonlight. A great time to find out what you've forgotton:
missing air matress plug : fixed with biro
dead fluoro light : resorted to dolphin torches
broken tent pole : fixed with fencing wire
new gas stove wouldn't light : read instructions (by torchlight)
We were lucky everything worked out as we hadn't done any tenting for years.
We spent 2 days driving and walking around the park. The days were hot, so Echidna Chasm was a cool spot for a picnic lunch. Natasha took a scenic helicopter flight after our walk on Saturday, and enjoyed the views. On the way out, we passed some bicyclists riding in. They seem to go anywhere.
After picking up our van again, we have now arrived at Halls creek where we all tucked into some icecream after roughing it in the heat for 3 days.
