Leaving Barn Hill, we headed south, staying at some nice shady campsites along side creek beds. We then camped at Karijini National Park for two nights to explore the gorges. The camp ground was spread out, but basic and covered in iron ore dust. It felt like the pellet plant in Whyalla.
The pools at the base of the water falls looked very inviting after hiking in the sun, but were very fresh to swim in. There are several gorges in short walking distance of the car parks, and we were able to explore 4 gorges during our short stay. Hancock Gorge was the most interesting, but we had to get wet to experience the good bits. Scott and Richard ventured a little further than the girls down rocky water slides and chilly water to reach 'Kermit Pool'. The rocks were very slippery and Scott won the award for most accidents.
After a quick look in Tom Price and Paraburdoo, we headed west for Cape Range National Park on the Ningaloo Reef. Currently we are staying at the Lighthouse caravan park, near Exmouth. There is no mobile service in the caravan park, so we have to go 1km away, up the hill to the lighthouse! We are near the US Naval Communication Station. The towers can be seen for a long way off, showing how tall they must be. 387.6m to be exact!
The kids are getting used to living with each other. They still groan at having to do a whole hour of school work, mostly in the car, but help out with jobs in the caravan. We should all be in tune by the end of the holidays. Only 3 weeks to get home. Eeek.
