Well it's been some time since our last blog but the fact is, since I last wrote we have only been to Scandinavia and last year, to Canada, Alaska and Hawaii, and well, nothing goes wrong in these countries so there is little point in writing a blog.
But this year its all about bikes, train, bus and ship travel, in Italy, Slovenia and Croatia and while we could never top our Great Italian Railway Journey of 2013 (see my past blog Stressa to Locarno to understand) there is always the possibility that something equally memorable will occur.
So this first stretch is Melb, Perth direct to London on the Qantas Dreamliner, time for coffee and a croissant in Heathrow and on to Venice, with the last leg being a 30min bus and train trip to Treviso.
If we pull up intact after that, then it's going to be a breeze for the rest of the trip.
The flight over was great, we didn't bother with the pre flight yoga class in the Qantas club in Perth and yet Jean still managed close to 8 hrs sleep. Arriving at Heathrow at 5:00am was another bonus, not a soul around so straight through all the formalities and into terminal 5 to wait for the BA flight to Venice.
Once on board we were told that it was a very full flight, which is a bit like saying "wait until the plane comes to a complete stop". Either it's full or it's not and then the pilot come on and tells us that he will try to get us to Venice "as safe as he can". Not filling me with confidence at all.
Beaten into Venice by an Aeroflot A321, there must have been 100+ waiting at passport control with the customary 2 lanes open for non EU passport holders, so after another 30 mins in a line and we were out.
Time to buy the bus tickets to Treviso and the machine took an instant like to Jean's credit card, so much so it wouldn't give it back. Small panic, lots of repeat button pushing and finally it gave up and we retrieved the card and paid cash.
Bus and train and we arrive in Treviso Apart from narrowly missing being run over crossing the road when we arrived in Treviso, we found the hotel and checked in.
So it looks like another Italian adventure is well under way.
