Another day and another trail. Although the morning started a little grey, the clouds soon thinned and the sun shone through making it a great day to set off on the 10km hike from one end of the Lakes to the other.
The Plitvice Lakes consist of 217 hectares of 11 interconnected lakes, each one spilling into the next, some over small cascades and others down spectacular waterfalls, finally emptying into the Korana River. The path was at times only cms above the level of the water and at other times, wound its way through forests of huge beech and fir trees, with the most incredible under storey of small plants and bushes. The walking was ideal with the forested sections providing a welcomed relief from the sun, as was the absence of brown bears and wolves that call the park home.
Later in the day the walking slowed as we encountered a number of tour groups. I don't know why it is that some people choose to take selfies or even scenic views from the centre of the path, generally in the narrowest section of path as well. There comes a time, when courtesy runs dry and stopping is no longer an option. Anyway, we did the round trip in about 6 hours and as is now our custom, we finished with a coffee and something nice to eat to rest the tired legs.
Tomorrow it's on to Split for 3 nights where no doubt there is another adventure awaiting, provided the bus turns up and the tickets are valid.
