16/12/09 - day 7.
was woken up by orlando at 6am, got the boat over to el porvenir to catch the plane back over to panama city. the flight was a bit uncomfortable and a felt a bit sick by the time i got to the other end. from there i took a bus to the main bus station in panama city where i had a lengthy queue to buy a ticket for my next destination which was David. david is the 3rd largest city in panama and has about 120,000 people in it. it´s also the capital of the chiriqui province which isnt too far from the costa rica border. i got a ticket for the 9am bus which took 7 hours plus a 30 minute break.
i felt quite tired but did still watch the movies they put on - i am legend and a spanish one with english subtitles called ´to rob a thief´ which was actually not bad! had a scary moment at one point on the journey where some immigration officials came on board and were checking ID and passports which made me think i´d gone too far or something and that we were entering costa rica! i asked the dude next to me where we were and was relievd to hear david was still an hour away. i have no idea why immigration people would get on a bus and check that sort of thing when you´re in the middle of the country!
finally got to David around 5pm where i hailed a cab to take me to the hostel i had booked as i had no idea where it was or if there was a bus. 1 dollar and 10 mins later i arrived at the ´purple house hostel´ and was greeted by andrea the owner. i had a shower and walked into town to eat and use the internet.
got back to the hostel in the evening where i met a nice english couple (tom and claire) who were 2 months into a year long round the world trip. they´d just come down through the countries im heading to so another useful source of info they were.
went to bed about 11pm.
