21/12/09 - day 12.
got up around 9, had the free coffee and pancake breakfast (which was very good) with the others. conner and i had decided to go to a beacj resort called barqueta. so after saying our goodbyes, we went our separate ways.
got the bus to David (its literally the ONLY place you can go from Boquete) at about half 10, ate some lunch in town around midday, dumped my big bag at the hostel, then got another bus to barqueta. we eventually got there at about 2pm which was later than anticipated. for 30 bucks we got use of the pool, gym, sauna, ping pong table, the beach, a meal and drink up to the value of $10. was good value, even had to have dessert to get the most of that $10!
we made full use of everything including the sauna which i sat in for about 20 mins with the temperature peaking at 45 degrees celcius. i dont know why, i guess just cos it was there!
sat by the pool with a beer, though the weather wasnt the best. ate around half 5 and then went to wait for the bus back to David. unfortunately we were waiting until half 7. while we were waiting, the cops came by. they said they had come for us which we took to mean they would be giving us a lift back or something, instead of the bus as were in the absolute arse end of nowhere and this was hardly the type of place you would get police just randomly patrolling. they then asked to see our passports which conner didnt have but i showed him the photocopy of mine. he grunted at this disappointingly, like he was hoping to catch us out or for us to be doing something wrong. he asked a few more questions about what were doing/where we were going etc and with every legit answer we gave, he responded with the same disappointed grunt. they then just drove off. very odd. maybe they were bored?
on the bus back, it was quite funny when each passenger got on they said good evening to everyone! i thought this was an odd but very pleasant custom! got back to David about half 8, said adios to conner who was heading back to boquete and went to my hostel. a quick shower and email check later i went to bed in anticipation of a humid nights sleep and a very early start.
that was another great thing about boquete: sleeping was so easy and comfortable due to the lower temperature. there´s actually a need for the sheets they give you!
