Uyuni is pretty much a tourist town as the gateway to the 12,000 KM salt flats (salt desert). On our first morning we loaded into jeeps for our visit to the flats. This basically means that you drive for over an hour at 100km per hour into the flats until all you can see is white salt and a few mountains. We did not know how dangerous this is until we got back and our crew told us that the jeeps regualrly have blow outs on the salt and 6 weeks ago 4 people died! Glad we did not know this before hand as we urged him to speed up throughout our journey!
Once we arrived in the middle we got down to the serious business of taking amusing photos (some are loaded on the blog, inc. a video of us walking into a pringles tube). The flats are renowned for their lack of perspective as everything is white and the sun blasts down on you. Taking the photos is not as easy as we were lead to believe and not necessarily the best activity for your wedding anniversary as it was extremely frustrating! However we survived and certainly faired better than a few others who had major domestics making for an amusing BBQ lunch out the back of the jeep! To be honest there is not much more to say on this, best to look at the photos and yes I did allow that picture purely on the basis that it was our anniversary! (the under the thumb one).
Unfortunately Nicky was struck down with the dreaded altitude sickness so our anniversary dinner was postponed. (she is much better now)
