Hello all, I hope that you are all well. Well here we are in La Paz updating our blog on the last weeks activity travelling through Bolivia. We waved goodbye to Argentina with fond memories and are pleased that we are returning to Buenos Aires in 6 weeks or so to explore further. The Argentineans were amazingly friendly and welcoming, not to mention the abundant steak and red wine meals for 6-7 pounds! Happy days!
On entering Bolivia we waved goodbye to tarmac and took what seemed like a fun bumpy road for about 10 minutes. 7 hours and a 45 minute traffic-light stop for roadworks later and we arrived in Tupiza! Think of the worst pot-holled dusty track you can imagine, multiply by 10, put yourself in a truck and then drive for 10-12 hours! We arrived at our hotel feeling like we had done an 8 hour journey in the back of a cement mixer!
However the hotel felt like 5 star luxury after 9 nights camping, it is amazing how much little things mean the world to you when you have not had them - a shower with a hot tap/ loo paper/ a loo/ a bed and no need to sleep in all your clothes to keep warm!!! The journey was soon forgotten and we tucked into that famous Bolivian food- Pizza (I am sure that there are more Pizzerias here than in Italy!)
The next thing we learnt about Bolivia is that it has the highest everything! This makes altitude sickess a real issue as we have been sleeping at over 4000M, this only really sunk in for me when somebody said 4 KM above sea level! A few people on the trip have suffered, however even if you do not get it you still need to drink 6 litres of water a day... with the size of my bladder (R) that is an issue when on a truck for 10 hours!!! Luckily we have regular pee stops and I have had some of the most, and least, scenic stops over the last week!
