Uluru was an amazing experience althought I (Laura) wasnt feeling great so probably didnt enjoy it as much as i thought i would although its still difficult not to appreciate the beauty of Kata Tjuta national park. We were picked up at 6.50am for our 5 hour journey out to the rock!! We stopped along the way at Mount Connor which was impressive and also saw a huge salt lake which was pretty amazing. After a long time driving we eventually arrived at the information centre where it gives you the history of the site you are visiting and how to respect the land and the aboriginal owners whilst you are visiting. We then went to the Olgas where we walked through the valley and got some good pics. As you can see from the photos, i had to buy a fly net as they were just everywhere and incredibly annoying. We then went to Ayers rock where some people on our tour decided to climb it (crazy people......its sooooo steep and many people have died doing it) and we took the safer option of doing part of the basewalk with our guide who shared some dreamtime stories with us and explained some of the rock art too. We then drove to the sunset point where we had an amzing barbeque and sipped champagne at sunset. Was a really nice experience. Even bumped into some of the people we travelled down from Darwin with. It was then time to drive back to Alice (an other 5 hours) Uluru is a bit extreme to do in one day but we really didnt have the energy to do another camping trip. Unfortunately on the way home the bus hit a kangaroo which was absolutely devastating. Cried my eyes out!! I wont go into the story any further and depress you all but i'll tell you all when i get home. Next day we ironically went to a Kangaroo Rescue hospital which was set up for orphaned joeys. They were absolutely gorgeous. They live in little pillow cases which reminds them off their mums pouch and we got to hold them against us as oour breathing reminds them of their mums. They dont get any human contact after a certain age so it was a real privilidge to handle these gorgeous babies. We then went on to a reptile centre and saw some of the venoumous snakes that Australia have and we got to cuddle a couple of the pet ones.
We both really enjoyed the northern territory. Had some of the best experiences of my life there and met some really good people. We even bought a digeridoo to remind us of our time there. haha youre all in for a musical treat when we get home hahahahah.Anyway it was then off to Cairns to work our way down the Sunshine coast.
