Today was our first experience in the outback!! or at least a taster!! We headed to Litchfield national Park. It did mean an early start...7am, not so bad, but we made the mistake of watching the football the night before which meant little sleep and slightly hungover!! Not good, but off we set!!
First stop was the Adelaide River cruise, we went out for an hour on the boat and we saw Saltwater Crocs, which aparently are everywhere and they are out to get YOU!! But it was pretty cool to see the crocs up close and see them jump out the water they way the would normal while grabbing food, and as we got told....normaly people only see a Croc jump once and by then its TOO LATE!! We also saw lots of Kites.
After the Croc cruise we continued down into Litchfield, stopping at some massive Termite mounds on the way, one set look like crave stones and the termites build them along magnetic north which is pretty cool! After that we went to a beautiful swimming hole (which had a sign saying Crocs are known to enter this area swim at your own risk) there was lots of other people there but it was massive so was very nice to get out of the heat and into some water!! Then Lunch.
After Lunch we headed to Florence Falls, it was nice, but a little later into the wet season it would probably be cooler!! After that it was more swimming in a small area which had lots of plunge pools, wasnt as nice as before and the water was a bit colder, but was still good fun. After that it was back to Darwin and an early night as we headed to Kakadu the next morning......
