Well, I felt well enough to have a go at exploring today. We took the sky train to Chatuchak Market, reckoned to be the biggest in Bangkok. Oh dear, when we reached the station, people were hanging over the balcony in awe at the sight. The place was pretty much under water! People were donning wellies etc and there were a few buses still trying to make their way down the flooded street but it was a no go for us. Back in the train we headed to Siam Square. We late...

We got a taxi up to the airport and flew to Bangkok today. We reached our amazing hotel in the afternoon (which I was particularly glad about as I still feel rotten and although the journey went smoothly, it wasn't much fun for me!) and Ian went for a little explore around Sukhumvit Road. Hopefully I'll feel a bit better tomorrow so I can see a bit of BKK before we have to leave!

Today we decided to head to Patong for a last beach day. This was mainly as our original plan to hire a car was scuppered by their being none available (probs a good thing, Phuket looks like it would be horrendous to drive around!). We took the Songthaew on the mountainous road to Patong, a kind of Thai version of Blackpool, and is full of overweight Germans in extremely tight speedos! Today we headed back up on to the mainland in order to take in a tour which included an island that featured in the James Bond movie, The Man with the Golden Gun (see pic!). We started with a longtail boat ride through the mangroves and limestone islands (or karsts) with some pretty cool scenery along the way. We then got transferred into little sea kayaks where a guide manoeuvred us through increasingly low ceilinged sea caves - very scary! Next stop was Koh Phi...

This morning we chatted to our lovely host Manit who has suggested some fun things to do while we're on the island. Apparently fishing is one of the main attractions but I think we'll give this a miss! We caught the local bus into town after brekkie (10 baht instead of 250 in a tuk tuk - bargain!) and scoped out the Sino-Portuguese architecture in the old town. This was pretty good stuff, just a bit of a shame the electrical wiring spoils the majority of the view...
