Well we left you in Bejing but have now been hopping westwards on a selection of night trains.
We have been exploring lovely ancient towns and staying in their traditional inns, visiting temples, we went to see the awesome Teracotta Army, did some panda and humungous buddha watching, and generally eating ourselves full of noodles. Dan continues to be the main attraction with many people continuing to photograph him throughout the day.
Besides noodles and Dan it appears the Chinese are big fans of Backstreet Boys (and a selection of 90s pop), beds wider than they are long (we sleep sideways), silent stealth electic mopeds (on roads and pavements), and waking at 5.30am on the night train (lights on and psychotic wake up call). It also appears kids don't wear nappies (just a hole in their trousers), and the 'ladies' frequently let rip from either end usually followed by a guttural throat clear.
Arriving at our hotel at 7am after what we thought was one too many night trains we had a 'Dan, is the room moving?' moment, and as we stared at the swaying light fittings we realised we were having an earthquake, just as it was finishing.
Anyhow, today we had a great time visiting the largest Giant Panda Research Center in the world, and got to watch the babies running about, which was brilliant. Next we are off on a river cruise for a few days down the Yangtze 'Three Gorges' (will it rival Cheddar?!) and then climbing a holy mountain, but happy birthday this week to Mum, Lou and Ali!
