As we were very keen to leave the Alexis Park Hotel and move in to our suite at the Bellagio, we got up early, packed and moved on, arriving at the Bellagio aorund 9.00am,hoping to get in to our room early. A greeting of "Good morning sir, welcome to The Bellagio", from the porter - let the opulence begin!
Unfortunately we couldnt check in early as "thousands" were checking out. We cloaked our bags and wandered the foyer of this wonderful place - but time to see tht later so we soon decided to hit the streets - "The Strip" to be precise, as Las Vegas Boulevard is known as. It was a very hot day, but we were very keen to see the various hotels and their themes. Our photo today is taken outside the Bellagio in front of the famus water fountain - we hope to see this tonight.
First stop was Caesar's Palace - Roman Forum designs, then The Mirage and Treasure Island. We were looking for somewhere to have a buffet lunch and along the way we had further experiences of one of Las Vegas' big cons. Trying to find a hotel with a buffet we thought the best place to ask in ech hotel was the conceirge. Well most want to sell you dinner and show packages or other packages which we didnt want and despite being in the hotel foyer, most of these people were working for the same company selling discounted or special package. Strill looking for lunch and ow on the oppisite side of the road heading back up the Strip, we came to The Venetian with its canals and condolas and striking architure was first visited. Finally we came upon a great buffet at The Flamingo - yes the hotel does have real pink flamingos in a large outdoor area, along with toucans and other wild life in ponds.
Full from a very nice buffet, the Paris Las Vegas was our next stop with everything Parisian - including the indoor shopping mall with French shops, street signs and a wonderful European feeling. No visit to Las Vegas is complete, so they say, without visiting some of these iconic attractions that the hotels are built around. In this case it was the Eiffel Tower - a 46 story high half size replica of the famous tower in Paris, France. It was a good experience with sweeping views of the Strip, Las Vegas and beyond in to the desert. Well worth a visit - France in Vegas. We again visited Planet Hollywood. The domes/ceiling of this shopping mall/hotel are painted like the sky with clouds and with the outside heat, the air conditioning was a welcome relief.
The Bellagio beckoned by mid afternoon and it was time to formally check in. To get to the rooms, as is the case in all the casino - hotles we visited, it is necessary to walk through the main gambling areas. Unlike in Australia, children wander through these areas also getting to their rooms, without anyone batting an eye lid - so to speak! Well our room was magnificent, on the eleventh floor, to the right of the picture at the far end of the hallway - quite a hike to get to, but wll worth the little extravagence we permitted outselves on our last night in the USA before going on to Vancouver, Canada, tomorrow. Rest time before our show this evning.
Our show was Cirque Du Soleil's Michael Jackson ONE at The Mandalay Bay resport casino. WOW, what a fantastic show ffeaturing Michael Jackson's songs with acrobats, jugglers, trampoliners, magnificent costumes, music, spectacular lighting, high flying artists who come out of the ceiling above and transcend to the stage... an electric experience that only Cirque Du Soleil could do (doubt it could ever come to Perth simply because there isnt a stage big enough). I repeat - WOW!
After the show we decided to walk back to the Bellagio and despite only being two blocks, there was much to see before the night was over. We wandered in to The Luxor - Egyptian theme and had a snack for dinner, then to New York, New York resort and the half size replica of the Statue of Liberty.
Finally we "trudged" on and stopped outside our hotel for the famous Bellagio light show. It was a great way to finish our day.
Good night, from the luxury of The Bellagio, Las Vegas, Nevada.
