Vancouver Day 1
Drive to Stanley Park looking towards North Vancouver. Beautiful park, lovely trees, great cycle paths. The harbour area is very extensive with many large cargo and container ships moored. The closeness of the mountains make it a very picturesque harbour.
Vancouver Day 2
A lovely relaxing morning with Ken and Tina. It has been so nice to stay with them as they are so welcoming and eager to show us around.
We headed off this morning for downtown Vancouver. It is a beautiful city. Bikes rule here with many roads having bike lanes on which cyclists can travel in any direction. It makes it interesting crossing roads and must be difficult for motorists as the bikes always have right of way.
We stopped to visit the Anglican Church, the Court House, a quiet public square and the very modern looking city library with its circular walls spiralling out. The city has trolley buses, is well organised and has a good shopping and commercial area.
Next was to another harbour side park and Locarno Beach. From here the city area is visible and across the bay/harbour the mountains come down to the water. Curiously, large logs have been placed on the beaches for people to sit on or lay against. It is a popular beach and many people were enjoying the late summer sun. It was a glorious day.
We headed back to Ken and Tina's home with the intention of going kayaking with their son Mike where he works as an instructor. Unfortunately there weren't any kayaks available so instead we visited Lynn Canyon Forrest and ventured across a suspension bridge, high above a swift flowing river. Joanne was very brave! We were on the look out for bears and cougars! Sadly, no sighting today, let's hope toros brings better hunting.
It's good night from Vancouver in "Beautiful British Columbia" - as the car number plates say.
