Vancouver Day 1
Drive to Stanley Park looking towards North Vancouver. Beautiful park, lovely trees, great cycle paths. The harbour area is very extensive with many large cargo and container ships moored. The closeness of the mountains make it a very picturesque harbour.
We caught a small passenger ferry boat called an "Aqua-bus" to get to Granville Markets. This is a lovely area spread around the waterfront with a great food court and markets selling general produce, souvenirs, paintings, clothing, jewellery and all sorts of delicious chocolate and sweets! We had lunch in this cry busy area, which was obviously very popular with the local people as well as tourists.
After getting the aqua-bus back to the other die of the river we drove out of downtown in search of The Vancouver Canucks Ice Hockey Team Store to get some goodies for special people. After Ken parked illegally on the footpath outside the store we rushed inside and about 20 minutes later we were on our way again with a large bag of merchandise.
Next stop was for an Ice cream at the Vancouver Gelataria Italia. It has 218 flavours and has been a family business since 1982. It was very crowded, a very popular shop even selling Vegemite ice cream. A token system to get served whereby you decided what size and number of scoops you wanted, paid the cashier and you were issued with a token similar to a gaming chip. You then went to the part of the counter where your chosen ice cream was displayed, handed over the token then began licking the delicious treat.
It has been a great first day in this very beautiful city.
