Since my last blog entry we have travelled all the way from the north of Scotland to the very south of Wales in Swansea.
It is now night 15 and since Oban where we spent the night with Scottish Midges - tiny flea type creatures that bite you and fly in swarms we decided to treat ourselves to a night in a Scottish bnb in Dumfries which was just fabulous!! On our way to Dumfries we swung by Glasgow for the afternoon to check out the city and visit the old merchant town!! We are really loving the freedom of the van as we are able to spend the morning driving and then check out cities and towns along the way or for the afternoon before driving some more to stay in beautiful country towns out of the city in the bush or the countryside which we wouldn't normally be able to experience if we were traveling the UK by Public transport so we are truly grateful for the opportunity.
From Dumfries we drove a short while to the Lakes District we were quite worried as it was the Saturday or the extra long weekend for the Queens Jubilee and we hadn't booked a campsite and all the ones we had called were fully booked except for one that didn't take bookings (first come first served) we arrived at 11am and were so so lucky in that we managed to snake the last site and they only let us in as our van was tiny - so very lucky as we later that day saw ppl camping on football fields!! Whilst in the Lakes we went for some drives through beautiful scenery along some very narrow roads and down very steep hills. I even managed to drag Ev through the Beatrix Potter Museum which brought back some lovely memories :)
After spending 2 relaxing days in the Lakes which drove Manchester arriving mid afternoon and wandered around the city then watching the Jubilee concert in a park on a big screen- we got locked out of our campsite that night and spent the night in the carpark which was fun to say the least especially as it was about as good as Heathcotes very own Tourist park!!
We spent the next morning in Manchester visiting Old Trafford home of Manchester United and I stood in the players lounge where Victoria and David Beckham first made eye contact and then later met (highlight of the tour for me)
That afternoon we drove to Liverpool and did the Beatles Museum tour and visited the Cavern club in the famous Matthews st - the museum was terrific and I would recommend it to anyone!!
After an exhausting day we drove to our campsite just south of Liverpool in Delamare forest arriving about 8pm we enjoyed the morning after in the sunshine and relaxed as we had been go go go for the last few days!! We then drove to Conwy - we were now in Wales!! We spent the night in a forest campsite and were greeted with Midges again :( and got bogged!!
Due to the midges we only got out of our van twice and left first thing this morning driving through the centre of Wales arriving at Swansea in the afternoon and where we are spending the night in another bnb (our last treat) :) its so nice to watch some Telly in a comfy bed In a room that you can stand in :)
Sorry for the long blog post but there is just so much to tell you all so I hope I'm not boring you :)
We will be spending the next week traveling along the south of England and back to London for the weekend to catch up some some friends :)
Lots of love Rhiannon and Ev xx
