Colleen & Tom's Explorations
So today is another public holiday in France! I think there are about five in May!
We had a relaxed breakfast and then went for a walk around our village - it is so picturesque!! I took lots of pictures - couldn't stop myself! All of the shops were closed, but the abbey (built in 791AD, with recent additions in the 12th and 14th centuries!) and the tourist information office were open. The French girl in the tourist office spoke fluent English with an English accent - her mum is from Kent!! So we picked up some great maps of the local area.
I received a very apologetic email from the dinner woman. She opened a business in a shop last week and in all the hustle and bustle our order somehow got lost!! Not the way to do business.
Different things I've noticed: 400-year-old stone houses block out all the noise. You think there's no one else in the village!!
Tom's red box of Twinings is not called English Breakfast (for what self-respecting Frenchman would drink that?) - it's called "Best Ceylon".
Old El Paso taco kits have a different seasoning mix - smells like the old curry powder.
The fruit and veggies in the E.Leclerc supermarket (as big or bigger than Emu Plains Woollies) are not fresh, nor are the ones at the village markets. Our iceberg lettuce was a product of Spain.
There's no such thing as cheddar cheese in French supermarkets. Nor peanut butter. They do have delicious soups in tetra paks, like the old one litre milk carton.
I forgot to mention that the largest, most successful Swiss watch brand is Swatch!
