In Uganda for nearly a week!!! seems much longer as I have met so many new faces and new places and feel so settled in.
'Olyotya'-'Hi, how are you' in Lugandan, trying to learn new words. As expected it is much hotter than England even though it is the rainy season! After staying in Kampala with all the other volunteers for one night, camping in James and Isobels garden, we were all picked up by our hosts seperately. Me and Naomi were picked up by Andrew our host and Paul, who is the maths teacher in the secondary school and lives at Andrews house. We travelled to our new home in Andrews car; one thing about the roads in Uganda is that they are chaotic!, if there is a space then you fill it!! The roundabout is constantly full! I failed my driving test for getting too close to a man on a bike, here, if you didn't do that you would never move-they also drive very fast!! Our new home is lovely and in a really nice area, our accommodation is amazing-we have a flushing toilet to ourselves and big beds! We also have electricity from solar power, for a few hours at night! Andrews home is very nice and he owns 80 acres of land surrounding it, he also has pigs, cows, goats and chickens. There are lots of little children that are living around and in Andrews home, that accost me and Naomi as soon as we get home-they like to play!!! The food is nice-we had pumpkin the other day-i love pumpkin, although the food will definitley make me fatter!! I have already been asked 'How are you so big when you eat so little'.
Yesterday Andrew took us on a tour of the local area and introduced us to the local authorities-he is a very good host and is trying to integrate us into their society and culture! We are being well looked after! The other teachers at school are very friendly, although they have difficulty understanding us. I don't pronounce the end of my words properly, which doesn't help and I speak too fast, so I am trying to improve that-I will come back home with a posh accent!! We start teaching next week, I will be teaching Mathematics at GCSE level although it is a little harder than GCSE, because they do vectors and logarithms! The school days are much longer-starting at 8 and finishing at 4:40! I am tired most of the time because after we have supper we talk and play cards and dominoes for a very long time-it is good fun though!!! But tomorrow it is a National holiday so we can have a lie in! :)
Hope you are all well

Annette Brill to readyour blog, i was asking Wendy how you were, I think she has visions, as did I, you were living in a little hut with a wooden floor, with a rat, sounds a lot nicer than that, what a great experience you are having, if you decide to go into being a teacher, then it will be great on your cv. sounds like you will make some life long friends, enjoy, look forward to your nex blog, take care x
