Ralph & Angela's travels
Since our last UK postcard on 20 April, we've both left work and we need to get out of the house on 2 June, but apart from that it's been quiet.
I had a leaving do on 12 May, which involved some great London pubs, excellent beer, and a cultural tour of the Inns of Court, Fleet Street and Smithfield area of the City of London (organised and conducted by Jeff, an expert on London history despite the handicap of being an American). Thanks to everyone for turning out, even those who skipped the cultural tour and took taxis between pubs, what is it about IT people?
My actual leaving day, 18 May, was the requested low key presentation, with cake, champagne and a newsletter spoof that involved bodily functions, thanks Jessica, Carol and, I suspect, Gary for that. I was overwhelmed by the huge turn out in the garden at the local pub, until someone mentioned that they were there to see the new Airbus A380 super jumbo make it's first landing at Heathrow.
Thanks to everyone at Heston for a memorable day, and thanks to Michelle and Patricia at Access for a lovely day before, the BMI bear may be going if we can get him a passport in time.
Angela left Ernst & Young on 23 May and had a great send off there, even though it was 2 days work to log off the IT system. She is already missing the rest of her Pod.
It looks like we have tenants arriving on 2 June so the task now is to get the contents of a 3-bed house in to a warehouse storage unit not much bigger than a Mini Cooper. The reason for the small unit is that these things cost the earth to rent; the Mini Cooper would probably be cheaper to contract hire! We have put as much stuff as we can in the loft at home, but any more weight and we'll be paying Australian council taxes!
The usual Sods Law has kicked in over the last 2 weeks with first the Canon camera breaking down and then the Garmin GPS. Slightly worrying that the GPS that will navigate us across the wildest bits of untamed Africa destroyed itself whilst downloading a software update!
The third and final set of jabs last Thursday was a major achievement, I didn't faint afterwards and I'm looking forward to having a beer without my arm leaking fluid.
The only things left to worry about now (apart from not having a salary after 31 May) is Wayne Rooney's metatarsal, and do I put a bet on Man Utd for the treble next season?
