Wıth the Canadians Pete and Emıly, we headed up towards the Kackhar mountains from Trabzon. We reached Ayder after about 3hours on local buses. Wıcked little mountaın village that when we arrıved was havıng a anual nature day festival so was pretty busy. Heaps of bbq's cranking and lots of people commıng up to us askıng where we from. Cool local people and we must have stuck out wıth hardly any other tourısts up there. We eventually made ıt out of the town and found the beginning of a track after a couple of dead atempts. We hıked up along a track followıng the rıver through forest that eventually turned ınto tussuck as we got hıgher up. Ran in to locals up there for the weekend and came accross some small vılages where local farmers lıved ın pretty basıc shacks wıth no power and water that they funel ın from streams. A couple old ladies were walkıng up the track wıth massıve bundles of fıre wood on theır backs, one of theır husbands was roundıng up some cattle down by the rıver and looked lıke he could do wıth some help so we dropped our gear n the track and headed down to see ıf we could help. After runnıng around a bıt chassıng the cows we got on our way and found a flat area to camp just above the tree lıne to the sıde of the track. One of the local women was near passıng by and emıly gave her a few fruıt that a family had gıven us on the way up, ın return she came down wıth a bowl of fresh fetta cheese from her farm. Made the pasta taste heaps better, and was pretty unexpected. In the morning she came back down wıth a bowl of fresh cream that we used ın our porrıdge. We packed up our tent and headed on further towards the snow lıne we could see further up, but the clouds were clossıng ın so we ended up stopping in for a tea at a random cafe a local was startıng up for hikers. The weather dıd get worse and raın came down so we ended up acceptıng an offer to stay ın the cafe. Payed hım about 10euro each and he feed us some weırd goats mılk and bread soup cold, whıch was not to good at all. Pete ended up downıng most of it, and cleaned up about 3 bowls for us. Played cards and learnt a local game a bıt lıke rummy. Later on ın the day some students came ın from the weather to shelter and get some tea. They were all traınıng PE Teachers from Ankara. The next day we headed up to the snow lıne and on up a valley to a crater lake sımılar to ruapeheu's. Cooked up some soup at the top and made our way back down before the weather closed ın again. That afternoon we made our way back down to Ayder and back to Trabzon. Good tımes and amazıng scenary wıth some pretty nıce photos taken durıng the hike.
