Had a really nice bus ride across to San Pedro, got to drive over salt lakes, but very expensive. Absolutly loved San Pedro, very cool little town in the middle of the desert and got to see some amazing scenery.
Had a bit of a mare with the first hotel though, the son of the old lady who ran it was such a dick, we ended up leaving after the first night to find somewhere eles. He actually acused Mark of stealing his comb that he'd left in the shower block - WTF! So found another place for same price.
On our first day we hired mountain bikes and biked out to devils gorge and death valley to see some sand dunes. Lots of fun and good way to see the area. Mark got some good video footage biking down through the gorge, one hand holding camera and one on handle bars so it was no supprise when he had a good bail (all on camera!).
The next day we did went on a tour out to laguna chax on Salar de Attacaman to see the salt lake and some flamingos; and out to some lakes Laguna Miniques & Miscanti which were at 4000m so very cold but so beautiful. Met 3 nice guys from Costa Rica on this tour.
Then on our last day we went to vist Et tatio geysers, which are the highest (4300m) geysers in the world. Very insane, as we got picked up at 4am to get there in time to see the sunrise, and we were so glad we met someone the day before who warned us how cold it was as it was FREEZING (bout -20 degrees). But after the sun came up, some hot chocolate (curtesy of a geyser!), and a swim in the natural thermal pool we warmed up. Got a flat tyre on way back, which was funny as the driver had no idea what to do, luckily some of the guys helped out.
Then that afternoon we visited valley de la luna (moon valley), to see some amazing panaromic views, and the sunset. Then it was to the bus station for a night bus to Arica (top of chile), which the costa rica guys we'd met from one of the tours were also on.
