The Scorched Plains of the Alentejo
Caught the ferry from Lisbon to Montijo across the Tejo (Tagus)- a superfast passenger hydrofoil. We crossed baking hot plains to Vendas Novas a barracks town with very little going for it, unless artillery museums are your bag. No sign of a campsite meant resorting to a surprisingly nice hotel. Ate in the only restaurant in town that wasn´t "bounced" by wizened old men smoking like lung cancer was going out of fashion.
Enjoyed a meal of cubed pork and mashed garlic washed down by local plonk, in the style of Tim Moore. Won´t admit to how early we flaked out.
Day 70.58km (total 133.2km)
