Headwinds and Heat
The coast road from Lisbon through Estoril and Cascais may be the windiest road in the world. The headwinds were so strong on the way to Cabo da Roca that on the way back we could coast up hills at 20mph! The road heads West (yes, we are going West to get to Istanbul - keep up at the back) past many old fortifications and then turns North along the Atlantic coast where the beach is frequently blown onto the road - sandtraps were not really what we´d been expecting.
The lighthouse itself is very impressively situated on a rugged and steep shore - which you can see just as soon as we work out how to upload photos. Our first pasta cravings (unfulfilled) kicked in at the restaurant right at the summit, as the headpoint is only reached after a long climb up a steep and windy hill.
Returned to Lisbon with the full moon (when you are the moon...) rising over the Ponte do 25 de Abril, which looks an awful lot like the Golden Gate bridge.
Next stop is Vendas Novas on the road heading East towards Badajoz.
Distance from Cabo da Roca: 51km (day total of 102km)
